Assembly in Progress...

Without a doubt, WordPress is a great tool. From both the development and end-user perspectives, it offers a wealth of tools, functionality and structure without trapping us in a rigid paradigm. That, along with being what could safely be called the first of its kind, is why it has earned such a significant share of the web.

It is not perfect, but we get these significant features:

  • A large number of well-thought-out functions readily available in the codex.
  • Flexibility to seamlessly one can build on top of, around or instead of the core code.
  • A quick pre-made code additions when we just need to keep moving.
  • Well thought-out backend interface for the user and the developer.
  • Robust and flexible theme system for the the user and the developer.
  • Page, post and plugin systems are decently intuitive.

Ultimately, WordPress will usually be a consideration when I am planning a project and sometimes end up be the center of a project. Much of the reason for this is the theme system. The basic requirements for a WordPress theme are reasonable and interfacing with the backend and database are easy. I especially like the child theming system. With this I can easily expand my themes without altering the core theme or creating a whole new theme that ends up just duplicating most of the code.

I have made a number of themes over the years for use in projects. Below are a few of them that I use the most. Feel free to download and try them out. Details are on each page.
