I have designed a large number of graphic instruction sheets. My goal is usually to use a decent amount of whitespace with spiked with small amounts of bold color. The idea is to create a soothing appearance, but not boring. In sync with this thinking, a bunch of square blocks with steps inside is common, boring and can be intimidating. I like to alter the layout wherever possible. The goal is to make it feel fresh and interesting without going too far and causing a sense of uncertainty.
